Steadfast Voluntary Organization (SVO)

Steadfast Voluntary Organization (SVO) was originally set up in Las Anod in 1991 after the breakdown of centralized power in Somalia. Battles between militias and clans resulted in hundreds of thousands of people fleeing to more peaceful areas in the North of Somalia. In addition to offering assistance, SVO was the first organization to speak out about the plight of these internally displaced persons. The field of operations was gradually extended to cover the whole of the Sool/Sanaag region and, despite the hugely difficult and complex conditions in the area, SVO has managed to work effectively. The organization has also succeeded in building itself up, improving its administration and IT skills, planning and project management.
