Sudanese Women Action Networks (SWAN)

Sudanese Women Action Networks (SWAN) was established in 1995, a network of Sudanese women of various ethnic backgrounds in exile in Kenya. The network based itself on the recognition that Sudanese women had to stand together across ethnic and local divides in order to promote the position of women in Sudan. SWAN works to improve women’s economic, social and political conditions and seeks to heighten women’s knowledge and awareness of their rights through their consciousness-raising campaigns. SWAN also works to strengthen women’s participation. Norwegian People’s Aid cooperated with SWAN to strengthen women’s political and economic participation.
