Since 1986, NPA has been the international organisation most consistently working in Southern Sudan. NPA has mainly worked within four areas: food security, health care, development of local communities, and various training programmes for the local population.
Peace negotiations between the SPLA and the government of Sudan started to bear fruits in the summer of 2002, with the signing of the Machakos protocol in July 2002. There has been a de facto cease-fire in the South since the end of 2002. The Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in January 2005
The NPA programme in Southern Sudan has these main components:
Norwegian People's aid (NPA) is a NGO working in Southern Sudan with a turnover of ~ 40 million USD, hereby invites reputable suppliers to pre-qualify for the supply and delivery of various goods and services for the period as outlined below.

Freedom of speech in Sudan is presently subject to serious attacks. Several times last week, three well known journalists and human rights activists have been summoned by the National Security Forces in Khartoum.
On September 28th, 2007 NPA Sudan held an Expo in Juba, Sudan. The aim was to raise awareness within the Government of Southern Sudan, UN bodies and the general public concerning the various programs and projects NPA has done and continues to do in Southern Sudan.
