Young Voices Network Zimbabwe

In 1997 the first meeting of young people from different countries linked to Norwegian People's Aid was held in Harare Zimbabwe and this brought together organisations and groups working with young people. This meeting was followed by some Zimbabwe organisations taking youth work more seriously and led to the Zimbabwe Human Rights Association organising a National Youth Conference in Masvingo Zimbabwe, in August 1998, where a Children’s Charter was crafted. The Network in Zimbabwe grew out of this process and a number of other meetings held in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Harare. Since then young people have taken over the organisation and running of network activities from the organisations led by adults that were tasked to do this. The network has worked since 2001 to enhance the participation of young people in community and organisational activities. Our goal has been that of young people being recognised resources within their communities and organisations.
