The Land Research Action Network (LRAN) is a network of researchers and social movements committed to the promotion and advancement of the fundamental rights of individuals and communities to land, and to equitable access to the resources necessary for life with human dignity. The members of LRAN come from policy research centers, universities, human rights groups, community based organizations, social movements, and non-governmental organizations. It is open to
the inclusion of like-minded new members -- individuals and
organizations -- dedicated to the principles and activities.

Via Campesina is an international movement which coordinates peasant organizations of small and medium sized producers, agricultural workers, rural women, and indigenous communities from Asia, America, and Europe. It is an autonomous, pluralistic movement, independent from all political, economic, or other denomination. It is integrated by national and regional organizations whose autonomy is jealously respected. Via Campesina is organized in seven regions as follows: Europe, Northeast and Southeast Asia, South Asia, North America, the Caribbean, Central America, and South America. Via campesina has one member and is collaborating with other organisations in Africa.

The Land Tenure Center serves as a global resource institution on issues relating to land ownership, land rights, land access, and land use. Our focus is on the relationship of land to economic development, socio-political organization, and environmental sustainability. LTC's approach to research and training is multi-disciplinary and stresses local collaboration. Since its establishment in 1962, LTC has sought to foster widespread and equitable access to land because of the understanding that this is basic to viable economic, social, political, and environmental systems.

The National Land Committee is a section 21 non-governmental organisation comprising a national office and eight affiliated land rights organisations. The NLC actively assists poor black rural people across eight (of nine) provinces to access land rights and development resources.

The NLC's national office in Johannesburg is the lobbying and advocacy arm of the network. The national office staff work closely with the affiliated organisations. The grassroots work of the NLC affiliates informs the policy approaches and interventions of the network.

Affiliates provide information and education to rural communities on land reform, as well as facilitation and planning support land reform communities.

As a centre for NGOs, MWENGO has entered the land advocacy arena as a facilitator rather than an actor. Our activities have been created with the following objectives:

  • to increase networking and information exchange amongst NGOs in the region
  • to establish processes where NGOs critically review the effectiveness of their interventions and are provided an opportunity to learn lessons from their own and other's experiences
  • to conduct studies on land issues, policy making and governance and analysis of advocacy campaigns
  • to increase public awareness of NGO action in relation to land issues.
