The fight so far - history & results

In 1992, six organisations jointly launched the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, ICBL, with the aim of establishing an international ban against anti-personnel mines. Five years later, ICBL co-ordinator Jody Williams and Tun Chanareth received the Nobel Prize in Oslo, just a few days after 122 countries had signed the ban in Ottowa. The campaign for banning landmines is proof that popular mobilization works. Now it is important that the ban is respected and complied with.
