The 3rd quarter of 2009 has been a good period for the programme. The late arrival of the rain has kept productivity on a good level, even if our MineWolf had an incident in August while working on high contaminated ground in Lainya Project, and got damaged.

Mine Action Sudan Second Quarter 2009 Report

The second quarter of 2009 was much influenced by the tragic accident the programme had in BAC team 1 on 13 May. During sub surface search one of our operators stepped on a suspected Anti Personnel Mine, which resulted in his left foot had to be amputated just over his ankle.

Mine Action Sudan - First Quarter 2009 Report

Mine Action Sudan Fourth Quarter 2008 Report

On 22 January 2009, Ambassador Ishii and Dr Elias Mitslale Girma, Country Director NPA Sudan, signed a grant by Japan’s Official Development Assistance for the procurement of a Mini MineWolf clearance system. Mine Action Third Quarter 2008 Report

The quarter has been marked by an incident which took place in immediate proximity to Loka Senior Secondary School in Lainya County, Central Equatoria. On Sunday 21 September, one person was killed and two others seriously injured when a small truck detonated an Anti-Tank mine – the vehicle was being used for driving lessons.

First Quarter 2008 Report

The first quarter to 2008 has brought renewed efforts in all recovery activities in Sudan. In the UN and Partners WorkPlan for 2008, the Mine Action sector reports that demining activities have opened up vast areas of Southern Sudan and in combination with infrastructure development have generated a significant growth in economic development and enabled the mobility of return programmes.

Fourth Quarter 2007 Report

At the start of the last quarter in 2007, the political situation was unstable, following the SPLM decision on 11 October to suspend its participation in the Government of National Unity (GNU). The situation subsequently stabilised when the SPLA returned to the GNU which was followed by new Ministerial Appointments.

Mine Action Sudan Third Quarter 2007 Report

The SPLM decision on 11 October to suspend its participation in the Government of National Unity has sent a clear signal to the international community that there is an urgent need to re-engage with the implementation of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) lest Sudan’s North-South war resume (ICG 12 Oct ).
