 Long-term Objective:   

Assist the South Sudan Mine Action Authority (SSMAA) in meeting its obligations under the Geneva call deed of Commitment (deadline 2014).

 

Short-term Objectives: 

1. Develop national capacity within the programme.

2. Contribute to capacity building of national   

    mine-action bodies.

3. Provide conditions for the restoration of the 

    agricultural  economy within the region. 

4. Facilitate the rehabilitation of social and economic

    infrastructure.

5. Work in accordance with the national recovery and

   development strategy.

 

 Partners:

1. South Sudan Mine Action Authority (SSMAA)

2. United Nations Mine Action Programme (UNMAP)

3. Yei County and Central Equitoria Government

    offices. 

 

 Capacity:

The programme is staffed by 260 national staff and

12 expatriates (as at January 2008).

Operational Departments are as follows:

5 x Survey teams (including one female-staffed team)- Also trained to conduct Task Impact Assesment (TIA)                  

 4 x  Manual teams (including one female-staffed       

   team).

2 x  Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams 

1 x  Battle Area Clearance (BAC) team (with focus on  

  clearance of cluster bombs)

1 x  Mechanical team comprising of 1 x combined tiller

  and flail (MineWolf)

1 x armoured excavator with tiller (MineWolf Bagger)

4 x Mine-Proof Vehicles

1 x Medical team for medical support of all operations.
