NPA in Eritra

NPA has operated in Eritrea since 1983. The programmes were financed by the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. NPA cooperates closely with The Development Fund.

As the Norwegian People's Aid has a deep historic root in the labour movement and the trade unions it is natural to develop projects with the counterpart structures in the recipient country. Both the Development Fund and the Norwegian People's Aid view the development of co-operatives and vocational skills as fundamental to the empowerment of peasants.

Norwegian People's Aid and the Development Fund have taken the initiative together with the regional authorities in Barka and the Ministry of Agriculture in Eritrea to realign our support from the national infrastructural agricultural rehabilitation programmes to a more focused regional profile, more specifically in the Barka Region.
