NPA in Sudan

Peace negotiations between the SPLA and the government of Sudan started to bear fruits in the summer of 2002, with the signing of the Machakos protocol in July 2002. There has been a de facto cease-fire in the South since the end of 2002. The Comprehensive Peace Agreement was signed in January 2005
The NPA programme in Southern Sudan has these main components:
- Food Security & Rural Livelihoods
- Humanitarian Mine Action
- Health & Medical Training
- Development Programme

Sudanese journalists in training to cover first elections in 24 years
More than 300 journalists and media houses across Sudan will be trained to cover elections by a consortium of six national and international organisations in the lead-up to Sudan's nationwide elections in April 2010.

Sudan is looking for You!
We are looking for independent and neutral monitors to monitor the media prior to the elections and during the elections 2010 on a voluntary basis.

Land released after mine clearance
After first declaring land in Sudan safe from explosives, NPA followed up the affected communities with a Rural Development programme, resulting in a farmers group; planting of twenty four hectares of land; and establishment of a tree nursery.

Mine Action Sudan Second Quarter 2009 Report

Sudan Mine Action: Third quarterly report
The SPLM decision on 11 October to suspend its participation in the Government of National Unity has sent a clear signal to the international community that there is an urgent need to re-engage with the implementation of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA) lest Sudan’s North-South war resume.
