NPA in Zimbabwe

NPA has operated in Zimbabwe since 1983.

Long term development programme

NPA works in partnership with community level organisations and organisations working at national and regional levels. Partners represent the interests of a particular segment with the ability to mobilise public opinion in support of the crisis issues in Zimbabwe.  They also represent ways in which oppressed groups including women and young people will be empowered to participate in the democratisation of Zimbabwe and economic development. NPA assist partners in identifying their needs for organisational strengthening, provides competence and capacity building and facilitates the linking up of organisations working on local and national levels.  Women Can Do It training is one of the tools that NPA offers.  Some partners receive long term financial support, some might receive funding for specific activities like campaigns, conferences and legal defence, while a few partners don’t receive or don’t need financial support from us. However, we share knowledge and experience with all partners, and cooperate on issues.  This programme is supported by NORAD.

Humanitarian Aid

NPA implements Children School Feeding Programs (CSFP) in partnership with ZimPro (re description in chapter 2) and Hope Tariro Trust. The CSFP provides porridge, benefitting 28 000 children in Matabeleland South (Inziza, Umzingwane and Gwanda districts) and 85 000 children in Masvingo.  The areas are traditionally known to be drought prone as they fall under natural region 4 and 5 creating inherent food insecurity situation. Food availability remains a major problem, compounded by accessibility constraints due to prohibitive prices in the few markets where food is still available. The CSFP mitigates the adverse implications on utilization and calorie intake. Given the collapse of the education sector children now primarily go to school to access food. This project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2008 NPA Zimbabwe celebrated 25 year anniversary.
