NPA in Lebanon

Norwegian People's Aid became activly involved in Lebanon following the Israeli invation in 1982. The main objective is to improve living standards and the educational level og Palestinian refugees and impoverished Lebanese. The focus is on emergency relief, human rights, physical rehabilitation, vocational training for youth and public health. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and NORAD donate funds to this work. NPA is continuing to lobby the international community to find a solution to the refugee problem on the basis of UN Resolution 194.

Solidarity with the Palestinian people

The staff of NPA Rwanda took the challenge and arranged a collect in the office in solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Victims of cluster munitions in Lebanon

Every day, civilians are killed or wounded by the 300,000 to 500,000 unexploded cluster bomblets that litter Southern Lebanon after the Israeli offensive. A visit to a local hospital unveils endless suffering. NPA is now taking on the task of clearing unexploded cluster munitions in Lebanon, a crucial job to be done before full reconstruction can take place.

Survived the war; not the peace

Cluster munitions kill civilians in Lebanon. 13 year old boy Hadi stepped on a cluster submunition in Southern Lebanon just one hour after the ceasefire went into place. - My son is gone. What will I do without my son, asks his mother Wafaa.

NPA stepping up efforts in Lebanon

An acute humanitarian crisis is imminent in Lebanon, but NPA staff is stepping up efforts to relieve the suffering and supply refugees with necessary food and medical supplies.

This was the response from our Resident Representative Wafa Yassir when we phoned her after the bombing started in South Lebanon and Beirut last week. Norwegian People’s Aid has been in Beirut since the days of the Shabra and Shatilla massacre, and Wafa has been with us since those days of war.
