and challenging violent men. There are sections about lobbying for national and international legal change, and training of

Study on Women’s Health and Domestic Violence Against Women. As of 2003 data collection has been completed in Bangladesh,

ICRW -
“Too Young to Wed: The Lives, Rights, and Health of Young Married Girls”
Millions of young girls in the developing world are married when they are still children. As a result they are denied
ordinary experiences that young people elsewhere take for granted: schooling, good health, economic opportunities, and friendship
with peers. While many countries have national laws and signed international agreements forbidding early marriage, girls under
the age of 18 continue to marry throughout the developing world, as gender roles and marriage systems dictate the practice.
Child marriage deprives girls of basic rights and subjects them to discrimination and serious health risks, including a greater
risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. It also threatens to push developing countries deeper into poverty, since young married girls
lacking a formal education and jobs skills are less likely to participate in the workforce.

Human Rights Watch
In armed conflicts raging around the globe, soldiers and paramilitaries terrorize women with rape, sexual and other physical
violence, and harassment. Often, the end of war does not signal the end of violations against women. In the post-conflict
period, many women confront discrimination in reconstruction programs, sexual and domestic violence in
refugee
camps, and violence when they attempt to return to their homes. Human Rights Watch tracks violence against women in conflict
and post-conflict.

UNIFEM – Women, War, Peace
The voices of women, their experiences during war and their struggles to build peace are at the heart of this report
by independent experts Elisabeth Rehn (Finland) and Ellen Johnson Sirleaf (Liberia). Because of the specific way in which
women are targeted during conflict, and because Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000) on women, peace and security called
for further study, UNIFEM appointed the two women, both politicians and government officials in their home countries, to travel
to conflict areas, interview women and bring their concerns to the attention of the United Nations and the world. The report
covers many areas of concern, from the gender dimensions of violence and displacement during conflict to the role of peacekeepers
and the need for women to play a central part during peace negotiations and reconstruction. Key recommendations focus on finding
ways to protect and empower women.
