Development cooperation in Somalia

Norwegian People’s Aid started its work in Somalia in 1993. The work has been concentrated in the Sool, Sanaag, Cayn and Mudug regions.

In cooperation with other international organizations in Somalia, Norwegian People's Aid is responsible for monitoring the humanitarian situation in Sool, Sanaag and Cayne. At the present NPA is the only international organization that operates continually in this area.
Norwegian People's Aid has in recent years concentrated its efforts on humanitarian assistance in cooperation with local partners. We focus on safe water supply to vulnerable households while contributing to rebuild infrastructure and wells through the "cash for work"-program. We also work with local organizations to empower women and to engage youth. The largest part of the population in this area is under 30 years of age and many of the tensions in the area, related to for instance Al-Shabaab and piracy is rooted in youth.
