Norwegian People’s Aid has supported social organizations in Chile since 1985. During the military dictatorship we showed support to social and income generating measures to promote independent organizing of the Mapuche People, fishermen at the coast, unemployed, women and youth. With the democratization in 1990 our work focused on organizational development, alliance building and capacity to negotiate with local authorities. In recent years the program has been phased down and collaboration has focused on the Lafkenche People, which is part of the Mapuche people who live along the coast in the south of Chile.
