FDA (Amazon Defence Front) consists of various local organizations in the Amazonian provinces Sucumbíos, Orellana and Napo and was founded to coordinate the lawsuit with 30,000 people targeting the oil company Chevron (Texaco) in 1994. The population in the area are living with the consequences of gross contamination after 40 years of petroleum production. The company left open waste ponds in the terrain, groundwater is polluted and people and animals are sick. In 2013 Chevron was ordered by the Ecuadorean Supreme Court to pay 59 million NOK as compensation and for cleanup, but they has refused to follow the order. FDA also advises various communities living with the effects of petroleum extraction to negotiate with the government and the oil companies. FDA has been Norwegian People's Aid partner since 2008.
