Development Cooperation Partners in Guatemala

Maya Balam Movement is an alliance of organizations in the western region, based on the Mayan cosmo vision. It struggles for a Plurinational State and for defending indigenous territory and natural resources. They work with political formation, organization, communication, and political mobilization. Norwegian People's Aid has cooperated with Maya Balam Movement since 2010.

CONCAD is a popular non-governmental organization that coordinates different campesino and popular initiatives in the area of San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, and Las Verapaces. Norwegian People's Aid has cooperated with CONCAD since 1995.

SOLMAYA (Ancestral Mayan Solidarity) is a movement of Mayan community leaders and university students in central and western Guatemala. They focuses on organizational and political formation of men and women for the defense of dignity, justice, and Mayan territory. Norwegian People's Aid has cooperated with them since 2009.

Mayan League is an advisor and facilitator for issues of political formation and integral development for Mayan organizations in the west of Guatemala. Norwegian People's Aid has cooperated with the Mayan League since 2003.

Cooperacion Indigena para el Desarrollo Integral (COINDI) was formed by community leaders in Sololá district to promote organization and coordination between the various rural communities. The organization was founded in 1986. COINDI works primarily with the formation of women and youth community leaders in Sololá. The focus is on political formation, indigenous peoples’ and women’s, rights and the rebuilding and strengthening of indigenous identity. Norwegian People’s Aid has cooperated with COINDI since 2004.
