Two social leaders i Colombia murdered
Norwegian People’s Aid strongly condemn the assassination of Teófilo Manuel Acuña Forero and Jorge Alberto Tafur Acuña, two higly respected social leaders from the Dos Ríos region
Both men were representatives for Norwegian People's Aid partners CNA - Coordinador Nacional Agrario and Congreso de los Pueblos.
They had been living with death treats for a long time, but were not provided protection. Now they are part of the devastating statistics, showing how dangerous organizing and fighting for change continues to be many places in the world. In 2021, 145 social leaders and environmental and human rights activists were murdered in Colombia.
The Colombian government and state must take responsibility to provide protection and stop the murders.
