Demining graduation in Mauritania

The NPA Mauritania program deploys two newly trained demining teams to the Nouadibou Region of Mauritania.

The NPA Mauritania program, together with the National Mine Action Authority in Mauritania (PNDHD), and the Mauritanian Corps of Engineers is beginning a new project to deploy two additional manual mine clearance teams to work in clearing the province of Nouadibou.

The two clearance teams, staffed by the corps of engineers, completed their initial basic deminer training at the end of June 2013 and deployed to the field directly thereafter. The addition of these two teams greatly increases the clearance capacity in Mauritania, and will assist the country to make progress towards meeting its mine ban treaty obligations.

Equipment for this project is provided by a grant from the Japanese Government, and other running costs are covered by the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (NMFA) and the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO). The NPA Mauritania program would like to thank these donors for their generous support of ongoing program activities.
