South Sudan: 50.000 people fleeing deadly conflict in Upper Nile
The conflict that started in Nasir early March between the SSPDF and the White Army escalated further and resulted in the killing of a UN staff and a general during the evacuation on March 7th. Nasir was bombed from the air during the night of March 17th. The UN reports that some 50.000 people have fled due to this conflict, life saving response has had to be put on hold, and there are also credible reports of civilian casualties.

Ten years of independence for South Sudan
On this day 10 years ago, South Sudan became an independent country. Shortly after, the country was thrown into a brutal civil war that threatened to tear the country to pieces.

20th anniversary of UN Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security
Resolution 1325 was adopted by the UN Security Council on 31 October 2000. For the first time in UN history, the Security Council took a position on issues concerning women's roles and experiences in armed conflicts.
