Aid distributions under difficult circumstances in Syria

In the past couple of weeks, our partner organization Bahar has been distributing food packs in Aleppo and surrounding areas. The distributions are rendered difficult because of clashes between different groups in the area.

In spite of the difficult circumstances, Bahar Organization has been able to deliver emergency aid to families in Aleppo.
–The distribution of aid in Aleppo is being done under very challenging circumstances. At the time of distribution, Bahar was the only organization that was able to distribute aid inside of the city, said Sarah Al-Amri, Deputy Program Manager for Humanitarian Relief at Norwegian People's Aid.

Hard to reach
Norwegian People’s Aid is in the process of delivering emergency aid to families in Aleppo, Raqqah and Hassaka provinces.
–These areas are hard to reach and there has been little emergency aid distributed there earlier. It is crucial that we get in there with food packs now, said Liv Tørres, Secretary General at Norwegian People’s Aid.
The aid is being distributed through an extensive network of partner organizations inside Syria and in the neighboring countries Turkey, Iraq and Lebanon.

Millions in need
The estimated number of people in Syria who are in urgent need of help is 9, 3 million. Many of these people are situated in besieged or hard-to-reach areas. About half of them are children.
–Although we are now reaching some of these people with emergency aid, the needs are staggering. We need all the support we can get in order to reach more people, said Liv Tørres.
