International Network on Explosive Weapons

International Network on Explosive Weapons (INEW) is a global network of non-governmental organizations that work together to bring an end to the human suffering caused by the use of explosive weapons in populated areas. Norwegian People's Aid is one of the founding organizations of INEW, which was established in March 2011, together with Handicap International, and Human Rights Watch and Oxfam.

Norwegian People’s Aid got engaged in INEW because we realize that while we and other organizations are working hard to clear the world of landmines and cluster munitions , innocent people suffer tremendously when explosive weapons are used in densely populated areas.
Norwegian People’s Aid works both politically and operationally to reduce the humanitarian harm from explosive weapons on civilians. This includes research, and policy and advocacy work. Several of our Humanitarian Disarmament Programmes also contain activities to reduce the impact on explosive weapons on civilians. We have developed an operational framework for explosive weapons in which we consider different measures to protect the civilian population such as securing and destroying weapons caches, preventive risk management activities and clearance of unexploded ordnance in the aftermath of conflict.
