Canada and Norwegian People’s Aid support Lao PDR’s CCM Presidency

As Lao PDR serves as the Presidency of the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM) in 2026 and prepares to host the Third Review Conference 14-18 September, Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA) is proud to support the CCM Presidency through funding from the Government of Canada’s Weapons Threat Reduction Program.

The support contributes to the Government’s efforts in planning, preparing, organizing, and delivering the CCM Third Review Conference (3RC-CCM) in Vientiane. More specifically, it provides two expert consultants in Geneva, Switzerland and two specialist consultants embedded with the National Regulatory Authority for UXO/Mine Action Sector (NRA) in Vientiane, in addition to financial support for a series of events and workshops.

The official Launching Ceremony of the 3RC-CCM was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the NRA on 27 February 2026 and chaired by H.E. Mr. Thongsavanh Phomvihane, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the NRA. Since then, a series of consultation meetings and technical/thematic workshops have been conducted in preparation for the main conference.

NPA highly appreciates the support of the Government of Canada and the opportunity to assist the Lao Presidency in its endeavor to deliver a successful 3RC-CCM, demonstrating Lao PDR’s continued leadership and commitment to addressing the humanitarian impact of cluster munitions and other unexploded ordnance.
